“The Automat”

The Boshis have returned and will share another fascinating documentary with us.

A cup of the best coffee was a nickel; a handful of nickels would buy a great dinner. You went to the nickel lady, and she would hand you twenty nickels for your dollar bill. This was during the greater part of the Twentieth Century, the iconic Horn and Hardart Automat chain in New York City. It was in many ways. not only the forerunner of fast food, but a social institution as well. Open to everyone, regardless of their ethnicity, religion or cultural background, everyone was welcome and the dignity of all was respected. While the Automats originated in Philadelphia, they were above all a New York City institution. This is the story of the Automat and the and effect it had on a broad segment of the American public.

All are welcome.
We will begin with Coffee and…..
Bring a snack to share if you like!

Your RSVP via Meetup, while not required, will be greatly appreciated:
