In the early years of The Great Depression, crippling economic & social collapse beset the American landscape. The election of Franklin Roosevelt began to repair the extensive damage, & brought with it the appointment of the first female cabinet member, just a few short years after women's suffrage. Frances Perkins was FDR's Secretary of Labor, & she was largely responsible for the creation of Social Security, the Child Labor laws, workplace safety reforms, and many other improvements to American society.
