Our September 2022 book is Passing by Harlem Renaissance writer Nella Larsen. (Last year we read her other novel, Quicksand.)  The discussion will take place Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 2:30 pm at the Wilson branch of the New Haven Free Library, 303 Washington Ave., New Haven. Note both the date (the second Saturday of the month rather than the usual 3rd Saturday) and location (Wilson branch of the New Haven Free Library instead of USNH).

>From Amazon:
Married to a successful physician and prominently ensconced in Harlem's vibrant society of the 1920s, Irene Redfield leads a charmed existence-until she is shaken out of it by a chance encounter with a childhood friend who has been "passing for white."…[Nella Larsen’s] fictional portraits of women seeking their identities through a fog of racial confusion were informed by her own Danish-West Indian parentage, and Passing offers fascinating psychological insights into issues of race and gender.
"Absolutely absorbing, fascinating, and indispensable." – Alice Walker
Supplementary Reading: Imitation of Life by Fannie Hurst (a film version of which will be shown at Sept. 3 Explorations)
Hope to see you there,Kevin (& Paula)
