Our book for February is In a Different Voice: Psychological Theory and Women's Development by feminist, ethicist, and psychologist Carol Gilligan. The discussion will take place Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2:30 pm in the Library of the Unitarian Society of New Haven at 700 Hartford Turnpike, Hamden.

>From Amazon:
[T]he little bookthat started a revolution, making women's voices heard, in their own right andwith their own integrity, for virtually the first time in social scientifictheorizing about women. Its impact was immediate and continues to this day, inthe academic world and beyond….Gilligan believes that psychology haspersistently and systematically misunderstood women – their motives, theirmoral commitments, the course of their psychological growth, and their specialview of what is important in life. Here she sets out to correct psychology'smisperceptions and refocus its view of female personality.

“Gilligan’s book is feminism at its best… Herthesis is rooted not only in research but in common sense… Theories of humandevelopment are never more limited or limiting than when their bias isinvisible, and Gilligan’s book performs the vital service of illuminating oneof the deepest biases of all.” – Boston Globe

Light snacks will be served.
