You are invited, by the Greater New Haven Peace Council, to attend the
73rd commemoration of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The Hiroshima commemoration will occur on Monday, August 6 at 8:00 am at
the War Memorial Flagpole in the New Haven Green, and the Nagasaki
commemoration will be on Thursday, August 9 at 11:00 am at the Amistad
Statue in front of City Hall.

Each will consist of a silent vigil followed by poetry readings.  You
are invited to bring a poem or reading.  We are asking participants to
wear something that is black (as a symbol of mourning) and we will be
giving everyone white flowers to hold (as a symbol of peace).  At the
conclusion of the Nagasaki ceremony, the flowers will be brought to the
Hibakujumoku Gingko Tree planted at the UN West River Peace Garden.
This tree is a sapling from a survivor tree of the Hiroshima bombing.
