USNH CINEMA FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, USNH SOCIAL HALL, 6:30 PM OPTIONAL POTLUCK 
DINNER, FILM PROMPTLY AT 7:00 PM.  This month's selection, co-sponsored by 
the Adult Religious Education Committee and the Economic Justice Action 
Group, is "The Flaw," an informative and entertaining film on the current 
crisis in capitalism, featuring economists Robert Shiller (Yale) and Joseph 
Stiglitz (Columbia).  In his 2001 Nobel Prize lecture, Stiglitz vigorously 
challenged Adam Smith's notion (1776) that free markets, without government 
intervention, lead to efficient outcomes "as if by an invisible hand," and 
argued "that the reason that the hand may be invisible is that it is simply 
not there - or at least that if it is there, it is palsied."  The film is 
just 78 minutes long, offering ample time for a full discussion afterward.
