[Hac-announce] Directions to the Independence Day Cookout

I got hold of a map.  It appears that the directions that Carol Siddall sent out are superior.

I also plan to use 100 Livingston Rd, Middletown in my GPS.

  If you have a little extra time to help set up that morning, please

  Brian and Tara will provide burgers/dogs, beverages, chips, and
  fixings. Please bring a dish to share. Tell the attendant you're there
  for the cookout at the pavilion to avoid paying the entrance fee.

  From New Haven: take I-91N to exit 15 for CT-68 toward
  Yalesville/Durham. In 0.3 mi. turn right onto CT-68. In 0.9 miles
  route 68 takes a left. Follow 68 for 4.2 miles, when you will turn left
  onto CT-17 (Main St.) Take your 2nd right (0.5 mile) onto
  Haddam Quarter Rd. In 1.7 miles turn left at Arbutus St. In 1.4
  miles bear right onto Livingston Rd. The entrance to the park will
  be on your left in 0.6 mile. The pavilion will be on your left.

  From Hartford: Take I-91 S and take exit 22S on the left to
  merge onto CT-9 S toward Middletown. Take exit 11. At the end
  of the exit turn left onto CT-155 (Randolph Rd.) toward
  CT-17/Durham. In 0.7 mile, turn left at Millbrook Rd. (there's a
  traffic light and a fire station on your left). In 1.4 miles turn right
  onto Livingston Rd. and then turn right into the park. The pavilion
  will be on your left.

  From 84: Take I-691 E toward Meriden and continue onto
  CT-66 (eastbound). In 2.0 miles turn right onto CT-147 S. In 2.3
  miles turn right and continue on CT-147 and CT-157. In 2.5 miles
  the road takes a sharp left (Middlefield Rd.). At the end of the road,
  turn right onto CT-17 (Main St.) and then take your first left onto
  Haddam Quarter Rd. In 1.7 mi. turn left at Arbutus St. In 1.4 mi.
  bear right onto Livingston Rd. The entrance to the park will be on
  your left in 0.6 mile. The pavilion will be on your left.

The locale is not called Crystal Lake Park.  It is Ron McCutcheon Park, and part of it is on Crystal Lake.

 

If you are using GPS, enter the address

100 Livingston Road, Middletown, CT

and you'll be close.

 

If coming from Route 17 going north,

 go past rte 68 in Durham.  If you go past 147 in Durham you've gone too far.

Bear right turn onto Haddam Quarter Road going east.

Turn left onto Millbrook Road.  Turn left onto Livingston going west.  In a couple blocks you'll find the entrance to the Ron McCutcheon Park on your right.  

Go north into the park.  You'll go through the parking area.

Building on the lake has the restroom. Just beyond that is the pavilion where we'll be meeting.

 

>From the north or south on Hwy 9: 

Get off on Randolph Road west (also called hwy 155).  At the first light past the fire station (about a mile or so), turn left (south) onto Millbrook.  Turn left (west) onto Livingston.  (Continue as above.)

This 100-acre park on state-owned Crystal Lake offers swimming, a sand beach, picnic pavilion, tables, a shower and buildings with amenities. There's also a Little League field, a softball field and a soccer field. The paved, state boat launch is for electric motors only and fishing is allowed, but not ice-fishing. McCutcheon Park is also the scene of many summer youth programs sponsored by the city's recreation department.
