SEE "THE SOCIAL NETWORK" TOMORROW, 6:30 PM, IN USNH SOCIAL HALL

Members and friends of the Humanist Association are cordially invited to
attend a potluck dinner and film showing tomorrow (Friday, February 25)
evening, sponsored by the USNH Adult Religious Education committee and
hosted by David and June Schafer. The showing will start at 7:00 pm,
immediately following the potluck supper to begin at 6:30 pm in the USNH
Social Hall. A discussion will follow the showing.

The acclaimed film, "The Social Network," is a dramatization of the book The
Accidental Billionaires, a partially fictionalized account of the creation
of Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg while a Harvard undergraduate. As everybody
knows, the world has not been the same since those events. Time magazine
chose Zuckerberg to be its Man of the Year for 2010. More recently, the
social network is credited with a major role in the current revolutionary
unrest in the Arab world. In honor of the reluctant resignation of Hosni
Mubarak, at least one Egyptian couple has named their new baby "Facebook."

This phenomenon is just one manifestation of a potential transformation of
humanity brought about by the ongoing technological revolution in
"Connectivity." NYU communications professor Clay Shirky has argued in a
2010 book about "creativity and generosity in a connected age" that "new
technology is changing us from consumers to collaborators, unleashing a
torrent of creative production that will transform our world," and will put
"our untapped resources of talent and goodwill to use at last."

If you want to learn more, and join in the discussion about the film and
these changes that have already begun to play a significant role in our
lives, don't miss this! Come and bring a friend. For more details about
the film and the potluck dinner tomorrow evening at 6:30 call David or June
Schafer at 281-6232.
